WHAT IS IOT ?


How are you reading this page right now? It might be on desktop, on mobile, maybe a tablet, but whatever device you’re using, it’s most likely connected to the internet.

“The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.”

WHAT ARE IOT DEVICES ?

IoT devices are pieces of hardware, such as sensors, actuators, gadgets, appliances, or machines, that are programmed for certain applications and can transmit data over the internet or other networks. IoT involves extending internet connectivity beyond standard devices, such as desktops, laptops, smartphones, and tablets, to any range of traditionally “dumb” or non-internet-enabled physical devices and everyday objects. Embedded with technology, these devices can communicate and interact over smart TVs, smart speakers, toys, wearables, and smart appliances. Examples are smart TVs, smart speakers, toys, wearables, and smart appliances.

  • It is a time-saving process.
  • It helps to work smarter, lives smarter and gains complete control over our life.

HOW IOT WORKS?


An IoT system consists of sensors/devices which “talk” to the cloud through some kind of connectivity. Once the data gets into the cloud, it is then processed, and then it is ready to perform some actions like sending an alert or switching on or off of something. Any adjustments or actions that the user makes are then sent in the opposite direction through the system: from the user interface to the cloud, and back to the sensors/devices to make some kind of change.

CONVERGENCE OF AI AND IOT:


Individually, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are powerful technologies. When AI and IOT, are combined this gives the invention of a new era of AIOT—the artificial intelligence of things. We can think of the internet of things devices like the digital nervous system while artificial intelligence is the brain of a system. This AIOT is going to replace reactive maintenance with predictive maintenance. Here edge computing becomes very useful and powerful. when artificial intelligence is added to the internet of things it means devices can analyze data and make decisions and act on that data without involvement by humans. These are smart devices and can bring full efficiency and effectiveness.
